  1. So much for my reading list. On the second day of the break I stumbled across a 20th Anniversary revised edition of Barbarians at the Gate (the book about RJR Nabisco's LBO) and have been working my way through that every spare moment I get away from eating and drinking
  2. Cheers Tom, I'll take a look at this tonight. There's a couple of other interesting videos on this that got discussed during my Economics class at AGSM earlier in the year that I'll dig up and post (I'll need to go through the slide decks or email the facilitator who shared them during a discussion).
  3. Flash Boys is what introduced me to Lewis' writing. Now I want more, especially his books about the Wall Street, which would make for an interesting read after finishing off Tim Geithner's autobiography.
  4. As evident from the title, what is everyone reading over Christmas? Christmas for me means a couple of weeks off work, 15k or so flown miles, and a lot of free time to catch up on reading and other media consumption (while keeping an eye on the scores at The Boxing Day Test). This time around, I'm hoping to get through The Serial Podcast (http://serialpodcast.org/) and a couple of other books by Michael Lewis. There are a couple of other political biographies on my reading list but I'm not yet convinced I want to jump into them over the vacation
  5. I'll introduce myself again, so I can win a book from The BookShelf! Currently working as an Technology Consultant (with some strat bent) and working my way through an EMBA at the Australian Graduate School of Management (expected 2015); aim is to use the MBA as a transition point into Management Consulting / Corporate Strategy. Outside of work and study, I'm a bit of an airline point hound and a status chaser (hello FlyerTalk!) who can't go past a good value fare to anywhere or nowhere! Avid foodie, love to read, and can watch planes take off endlessly (which makes transiting in Hong Kong a dream!)
  6. Having a circular manhole cover makes it impossible to drop it into the manhole; preventing much nuisance being caused with Manholes left open. You say "yes but it doesn't stop someone from walking away with the cover anyways?" - that's why quite a few manhole covers are secured to the inside of the manhole by a chain long enough to remove the cover and keep it out of the way when required (definitely seen this in developing countries where selling the manhole cover as scrap metal could feed someone for a week!) .
  7. Really eric? You couldn't have responded without bringing in Gupta's cultural background into play?
  8. Finished reading the book a few weeks ago and is quite an interesting look at the Management Consulting industry in general as well as McKinsey in particular. Definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to pursue a career as a Management Consultant.
