Guest Sarah Foster Posted March 28, 2014 Report Share Posted March 28, 2014 John Chen, executive chairman and chief executive of BlackBerry, announced on Friday a fourth-quarter net loss of $423 million, bringing the total loss for the company’s fiscal year to $5.9 billion. Despite the bad news, industry analysts are no longer predicting the company's collapse. Since moving to BlackBerry in November, Chen has revamped its executive ranks, accelerated layoffs, cut costs and sold real estate. More importantly, Chen plans to shift the company’s focus toward its software and services business. Chen wants BlackBerry to become a leading supplier of software and services to manage the data generated by the proliferation of smartphones and tablets used by business and government.
